What is Mediation?

Mediation is a process whereby an impartial mediator works with people in conflict, enabling them to reach a mutually
agreed, constructive resolution to improve their working or personal relationship.

Benefits of Mediation

  • Confidentiality: Mediation is a neutral and confidential setting where parties can openly discuss their views.
  • Control: Parties have more control over the resolution because they are directly involved in negotiating their own agreement.
  • Faster: Mediation can be used early in a dispute, so an agreement can usually be reached quicker than through grievance procedures or courts.
  • Reduced costs: Mediation is far less expensive than going to court or extended grievance processes and outcomes.
  • Preserved relationships: Mediation can preserve working relationships and make the termination of a relationship more amicable.
  • Mutually satisfactory results: Parties are generally more satisfied with solutions that they have had a hand in creating.
  • Comprehensive agreements: Mediated agreements can resolve procedural and interpersonal issues.
  • Increased compliance: Research has shown that parties are more likely to comply with an agreement when they have a say in crafting it.
  • Stress reduction: Mediation can help reduce stress.

Workplace Mediation

At Aberdeen Mediation we know exactly how difficult and damaging it can be when there is conflict or disharmony in the workplace. The knock-on effects can create mistrust and anger, disruptive behaviour, long term absence, demotivation and fractured relationships.

Traditional grievance procedures are known to be inactive, often failing to address the core issues and rarely achieving harmony or resolving areas of conflict.

We believe that by encouraging people to come together under the observation and guidance of an impartial, professional mediator, a constructive conversation can be facilitated which can assist in establishing a mutually agreeable resolution.

It is common for conflict to arise in the community between neighbours due to issues such as noise nuisance, antisocial behaviour, parking or boundary disputes.

Community mediation is a powerful tool that offers an opportunity for people to resolve disputes through managed communication.

Impartial, qualified and experienced mediators, listen and help people hear one another, dealing with the needs of each individual.

Mediation Awareness

Mediation Awareness

If there are signs that workplace harmony is fraying at the edges, or that a team is on the brink of breaking down, our Mediation Awareness sessions might help you understand how workplace mediation can be used to prevent escalation of potentially serious situations. Aberdeen Mediation’s Mediation Awareness sessions can be delivered to staff and management teams, or HR departments. Our sessions are designed to outline how workplace mediation works and how, when used before crisis point is reached, it can reduce costs, ineffective workplace practices and wasted staff time.

Peer Mediation Training

Peer mediation is a process of developing children and young people to resolve conflict between their peers in a constructive, non-violent way. It involves two trained mediators guiding groups of young people through conflict resolution.

Such conflict could include rights in the playground, rumour-spreading, or different types of ‘bullying’ behaviour.

Peer mediation services can be set up in schools (primary and secondary), youth organisations or other relevant settings.

Peer mediation not only enhances personal strengths and resilience among children and young people, it also cultivates leadership, communication and cooperation skills, confidence and tolerance.
